Lessons and Performances by a Historically Trained Instrumentalist and Singer

Anson’s Guitar Studio offers lessons on classical and electric guitar, ukulele, and lute for aspiring musicians ages 5 and up.

Anson offers a wide range of musical performances and accompaniment. He accompanies singers, ensembles, and larger groups as a lutenist, basso continuo player, guitarist, and loves working with student performers on recitals or juries.

He is available for solo performances for events, such as weddings and parties. Types of music performed may range from Renaissance through modern classical guitar music, or any other requested style.

About Anson

Anson Brown started his musical career at Fresno City College were he studied with David Schramm and Dr. Kevin Cooper where he studied classical guitar and started to develop a fondness for historical music. At the University of California, Irvine, he studied the lute and historically informed guitar performance under John Schneiderman. At Irvine, he earned both his Bachelors of Music and his Masters of Fine Arts degrees in 2013 and 2015. He earned his Masters in the Art of Teaching degree in 2022 at Oregon State University.

He specializes in performance on the guitar and the lute. He also specializes in basso continuo and historical accompaniment from the 16th-17th century. He has extensive knowledge of music theory in modal counterpoint, tonal music, and 20th century music.

He has taught Guitar, Lute, and Ukulele in California, Missouri, and Oregon in schools and in private for over 10 years. Starting with folk music that he learned from music lying around the house he eventually turned his interest to the electric guitar and started playing heavy metal. This lasted until he started to attend community college where he found a love for the Classical Guitar and earlier forms of music. Before he left community college a development for the Lute began which prompted his decision to attend the University of California, Irvine to study early music on the Lute and Guitar. Anson's specialty is in performance on the Guitar and the Lute, specifically basso continuo and historical accompaniment from the 16th-17th century. He continued his love of performance and teaching through Saint Louis, Missouri. There he worked for the Saint Louis Classical Guitar Society and worked with schools to help bring guitars into the classroom. Anson moved to Oregon and continued teaching privately and working with the Oregon Bach Collegium then started school to earn his teacher's license in 2021. As a new citizen of Portland he is excited to become part of the thriving musical community.
